NACS
NACS is the North American Charging Standard, a compact connector first developed by Tesla and now standardized as SAE J3400.
The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation says NACS was originally developed by Tesla and works for AC and DC charging. Standardizing NACS as J3400 means any supplier or manufacturer can use, make or deploy the connector on vehicles and at charging stations across North America.
The same page notes that NACS can be used for Level 1 and Level 2 charging and works with the older J1772 connector through an adapter. A home Level 2 charger may come with either plug. The circuit is the same. See EV charging station installation.
