Why did my parking lot lights go out?

A lamp, ballast or LED driver may have failed, a photocell or timer may have stopped switching, or a breaker or wiring fault may have cut power to the circuit. See ballast, LED driver, photocell and HID lighting. DOE notes that controls turn lights off in unoccupied areas, so check whether a control changed. Do not open pole bases or control boxes yourself.

What can I check before I call?

Walk the lot at dusk. Note which poles are dark, when it started and whether it is one pole, a group or all of them. Take photos from the ground. Keep people away from damaged poles and hanging wires, and call 911 and the utility for a downed line. See the parking lot lighting repair guide for a fuller checklist.

Should I upgrade to LED?

LED lot lights can cut energy use and maintenance visits. DOE says good-quality white LED products are expected to last 30,000 to 50,000 hours or longer. See LED lighting installation and the retrofit and relamp entries.

Who fixes lights on a public street?

The utility or the city owns most street lights. Daniel Electric repairs lights on private property such as lots, drives and building exteriors. NRH, for example, says street lights are maintained and repaired by Oncor. For a lot you manage, call (817) 481-8606 or use the quote form.

How do I schedule a repair?

Can you repair light poles?

Daniel Electric lists light pole repair among its parking lot services. Send photos of the pole and its base with the quote form, and tell us what you noticed.

Why do my lot lights come back on slowly after a power dip?

Some older HID lamps need time to restart after losing power. If the lights do not restart, a ballast, lamp or control may have failed. We troubleshoot to find which.

How long do LED lot lights last?

DOE says good-quality white LED products are expected to have a useful life of 30,000 to 50,000 hours or longer. The real life depends on the product, the heat and how it is controlled.

Do you replace entire fixtures?

Yes. Daniel Electric lists installing energy-efficient parking lot lighting as well as repairs. We can repair what you have or replace it, and we explain the options before work starts.
