J1772

J1772 is the standard plug used on most North American electric vehicles for AC charging at Level 1 and Level 2.

The Alternative Fuels Data Center explains that the J1772 connector plugs into the car's J1772 charge port. A Level 1 cordset has a NEMA plug at one end and a J1772 connector at the other. The CCS port on a vehicle, also called the J1772 combo, accepts Level 1, Level 2 or DC fast charging.

A home Level 2 charger usually ends in a J1772 plug. Some newer vehicles use NACS instead, and adapters exist. Check your vehicle manual, then ask a licensed electrician about the circuit. The cable and plug are part of the EVSE.
