Ev charging
EVSE
EVSE stands for electric vehicle supply equipment, the charging equipment that safely delivers power from a circuit to an electric vehicle.
People call the box on the wall a charger, but for AC charging the car's onboard charger does the converting. The EVSE is the safe link that connects, checks and powers the cable. The Alternative Fuels Data Center notes that EV charging ports are also sometimes referred to as EVSE ports.
An EVSE is either plugged into an outlet or a hardwired charger. It needs a dedicated circuit. A Level 2 charger is an EVSE, as is the cord that comes with many vehicles. A licensed electrician installs the circuit. See EV charging station installation.
