Power and utility
ERCOT
ERCOT is the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the nonprofit that runs the grid serving most of the state.
ERCOT says it is the independent system operator for the region and schedules power on an electric grid that connects more than 55,000 miles of transmission lines. Its grid covers approximately 75 percent of the land area in Texas.
ERCOT does not own the local poles and wires. That is the utility, such as Oncor. ERCOT issues conservation notices when supply is tight. See ERCOT conservation notices at home and power outage.
