Power outage
A power outage is a loss of electric service, caused either by a problem on the utility's lines or by a problem inside your own home.
Ready.gov describes a power outage as when the electrical power goes out unexpectedly. First check whether neighbors have power. If they do, the cause may be a tripped breaker or a failed device in your home. If they do not, the utility lines are the likely cause.
In North Texas, report outages to your utility, such as Oncor or CoServ, depending on your address. Stay away from downed lines and call 911 and the utility. Never run a generator indoors. See emergency electrical help.
