Ev charging

Level 2 charger

A Level 2 charger charges an electric vehicle from a 240 volt circuit, which is faster than Level 1 and the usual choice for home charging.

The Alternative Fuels Data Center says Level 2 equipment offers charging through 240 V in typical residential applications. Most homes have 240 V service available, and because Level 2 equipment can charge a typical EV battery overnight, owners commonly install it for home charging.

A Level 2 charger needs its own dedicated circuit. It either plugs into an outlet such as a NEMA 14-50 or is a hardwired charger. Panel capacity matters, so a licensed electrician should do the load check and the install. See EV charging station installation.
