Ev charging

NEMA 14-50

A NEMA 14-50 is a four-prong, 240 volt, 50 amp outlet, common for RVs, that some EV owners use to plug in a charger.

The Alternative Fuels Data Center says the NEMA 14-50 outlet is rated at 50 amps and 240V, and is commonly used to power recreational vehicles at RV parks or dryers in homes. Some electric vehicles have a cordset available for use with this outlet.

To charge from one at home, the outlet needs a proper dedicated circuit and wiring sized for the load. A hardwired charger is the other option. Compare it with NEMA 6-50. A licensed electrician should check your panel first. See EV charging station installation.
