Ev charging
DC fast charger
A DC fast charger sends direct current straight to the vehicle battery at high power, so it charges much faster than home Level 2 equipment.
The U.S. Department of Transportation says direct current fast charging equipment offers rapid charging along heavy-traffic corridors at installed stations. It can charge a battery EV to 80 percent in about 20 minutes to 1 hour. Most plug-in hybrids on the market do not work with fast chargers.
DC fast chargers need large power service and are mostly found in public places. Homes use a Level 2 charger instead. Common connectors include NACS and CCS. For home charging, see EV charging station installation.
