TDLR
TDLR is the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the state agency that licenses electricians and electrical contractors.
TDLR says anyone who performs, or offers to perform, non-exempt electrical work in Texas must be licensed and perform that work through a licensed electrical contractor. TDLR also adopts the state electrical code. It adopted the 2026 NEC, effective September 1, 2026.
TDLR offers a license lookup on its site, so you can check any contractor before hiring. License types include master electrician and journeyman electrician. See hire a licensed electrician in Texas.
