Codes and permits
Code compliance
Code compliance means electrical work follows the electrical codes that the state and city have adopted.
Texas adopted the 2026 National Electrical Code as the state electrical code, effective September 1, 2026, according to TDLR. Cities can adopt local amendments. Southlake's page lists the 2023 NEC, so always ask your city which edition applies.
Roanoke notes that even a homeowner doing their own work on a homestead needs a permit, and all work must comply with the city's adopted electrical codes. Compliance is checked at an electrical inspection after an electrical permit. See the NEC.
