Lighting
Emergency lighting
Emergency lighting is backup lighting that turns on when normal power fails so people can see the way out.
Emergency lights run on a battery or other backup source. In workplaces, OSHA requires that each exit route be adequately lighted so that an employee with normal vision can see along the exit route. Local fire and building codes set how the lights are tested.
An exit sign is related but separate. Both need regular checks, and batteries wear out. Ask your inspector or fire marshal which rules apply to your building. See commercial electrical maintenance.
