Weather-resistant receptacle
A weather-resistant receptacle is an outlet made for damp or wet locations, such as patios, decks and pool areas.
Leviton says that all residential outdoor outlets are required to be weather-resistant, including outlets on patios, decks and near pools and hot tubs. It adds that, to meet code, the outlet must be paired with a proper weatherproof enclosure for complete protection from the elements.
The outlet alone is not enough, because the cover matters most where plugs stay in use. Outdoor outlets also need GFCI protection. Many are also tamper-resistant. A licensed electrician should install or replace outdoor outlets. See hot tub and pool electrical safety.
