Panels and service
Load center
A load center is the residential name for a distribution panel that holds circuit breakers. Product listings and catalogs use this term.
Manufacturers use load center for panels built for homes and light commercial buildings. Siemens describes a loadcentre as a metal enclosed distribution panel with circuit breakers that distribute, protect and control lighting and power circuits. In daily talk it is the same box as a breaker panel.
Larger commercial systems usually use a panelboard instead. A load center is rated by its amp size and its number of breaker spaces. Choosing, sizing or swapping one is work for a licensed electrician. See panel repair and replacement.
