Panels and service
Main breaker
The main breaker is the large breaker that shuts off all power to the panel and the circuits it feeds.
OSHA defines service equipment as the breakers or switches, with their accessories, that act as the main control and cutoff of the supply. In many homes the main breaker does this job at the top of the electrical panel. Oncor adds that a service disconnect must be able to be locked in the open position.
Switching it off shuts down the branch breakers, but the wires that feed it from the service entrance stay energized. Do not open the panel. Call a licensed electrician for any work here. See panel upgrades and the Oncor meter disconnect.
