Panels and service
Panelboard
A panelboard is a distribution panel with buses and overcurrent devices, set in a cabinet on a wall. The term is common in commercial work.
OSHA defines a panelboard as a single panel or group of panel units with buses and automatic overcurrent devices, with or without switches, built to sit in a cabinet in or against a wall and reached only from the front. Homes use the same idea in a load center.
Commercial buildings often have several panelboards, each feeding one part of the building. Some are fed from another panel, like a subpanel. Service work on them needs a licensed electrician. See commercial electrician services.
