USB outlet
A USB outlet is a wall outlet with built-in USB ports, so phones and tablets can charge without a plug-in adapter.
Legrand defines a USB outlet as a standard electrical outlet that also includes USB Type A or C ports in addition to the two typical outlets. Leviton offers them in 15 amp or 20 amp versions with Type A and Type C ports. The ports charge phones and tablets with no bulky adapter.
A USB outlet is still a receptacle on a circuit and shares that circuit's load. The ports add a power supply inside the outlet, so a unit that runs hot or fails should be replaced by a licensed electrician. Some models are also tamper-resistant.
