Wiring and circuits
Romex
Romex is a brand name for NM-B cable, the plastic-jacketed cable used for most branch circuits inside homes.
Romex is Southwire's trade name for nonmetallic-sheathed cable. Many people use the word for any NM-B cable. Southwire says NM-B cable is primarily used in residential wiring as branch circuits for outlets, switches and other loads, with a voltage rating of 600 volts.
See NM-B cable for the technical name. Southwire says it may be used for exposed and concealed work in dry locations. Wet or buried runs need other types, such as direct burial cable. Sizes follow wire gauge. A licensed electrician should run or repair it.
