Point-of-use surge protector
A point-of-use surge protector is a plug-in strip or outlet that protects the devices connected to it. It is the last line of defense.
Leviton places point-of-use protection at the equipment, such as computers, gaming systems and TVs, as the last line of defense. Belkin adds that most have an indicator light to show that devices are protected, and a reset button for over-current protection after an event.
A strip does not make an outlet safe to overload. Do not chain strips together or plug a heater into one. Pair it with a whole-house surge protector, and check its joule rating. See power strips, surge protectors and extension cords.
