Bonding
Bonding joins metal parts so they stay at the same electrical level and can carry fault current safely.
OSHA defines bonding as the permanent joining of metallic parts to form an electrically conductive path that ensures electrical continuity and the capacity to conduct safely any current likely to be imposed. A bonding jumper is the conductor that links the parts. Bonding keeps metal at the same level, so a fault does not leave one piece energized.
Grounding ties the system to earth. Bonding ties metal parts to each other. Bonded items include metal boxes and piping. Both rely on the equipment grounding conductor. Leave the work to a licensed electrician.
