# NFPA 70

NFPA 70 is the official standard number of the National Electrical Code, which NFPA publishes and revises every three years.

NFPA 70 is the formal name for the [NEC](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/nec). The National Fire Protection Association develops it through a consensus process. NFPA says compliance with the NEC helps protect people and property from electrical hazards, and that the code is used in all 50 states.
