# Light pole

A light pole is the tall post that holds parking lot or street fixtures, with wiring inside and a power feed to the fixture.

The Department of Energy's FEMP covers outdoor pole and arm mounted area and roadway luminaires as a designated product category. A pole carries the fixture to a mounting height, holds the wiring and sits on a base. Power usually reaches it through buried or overhead supply wiring.

Pole lighting problems come from fixtures, [photocells](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/photocell), [ballasts](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/ballast) or the supply wiring.
