# EMT

EMT, or electrical metallic tubing, is lightweight steel conduit used to protect wiring, especially in commercial buildings.

EMT is thin-wall steel tubing that houses wires. Wheatland Tube says its EMT is made from mild strip steel with a galvanized finish and an inside coating for corrosion resistance and easy wire pulling. It is listed to the UL-797 standard.

EMT is a type of [conduit](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/conduit). It is not allowed everywhere: Oncor's guidelines say EMT is not acceptable for a [service mast](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/service-mast).
