# Electrical permit

An electrical permit is approval from a city's building department to do electrical work, usually followed by an inspection.

Lantana's page says electrical permits are required for most modifications to electrical systems. Carrollton says permits are required for repairs or replacement of parts of a building related to mechanical, electrical or plumbing systems.

Rules differ by city, so ask the building department before work starts. Cities may also require contractors to register.
