# Dedicated circuit

A dedicated circuit serves one appliance or device only, with its own breaker and wiring back to the panel.

Large loads such as EV chargers, ovens and dryers need their own circuit so nothing else shares the load. The Alternative Fuels Data Center notes that Level 1 charging works when a power outlet on a dedicated branch circuit is available near the parking spot. Each circuit has its own [circuit breaker](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/circuit-breaker).

A dedicated circuit helps avoid an [overload](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/overload) and repeat trips. Adding one means checking panel capacity first with a [load calculation](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/load-calculation). See [electrical panel repair and replacement](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/electrical-panel-repair-replacement) for that step.
