# Power Outage in Southlake, Grapevine, or Keller: What to Do

In Southlake, Grapevine, and Keller, report an outage to Oncor at 888-313-4747 or text OUT to 66267. Some addresses get power from Tri-County Electric Cooperative instead. Call 911 for a downed line. If only your home is dark, Oncor does not own the meter base or weatherhead on your house.

Power and outagesPublished September 8, 20263 min read

If the power goes out in Southlake, Grapevine, or Keller, your first call goes to the utility, not to an electrician. Oncor serves these cities, and Tri-County Electric Cooperative serves some addresses. This post shows who to call, what the utility owns, and what sits on your side of the meter.

## Who do I call when the power goes out in Southlake, Grapevine, or Keller?

Call your utility. For Oncor customers, Oncor says you can report an outage by calling 888-313-4747, texting OUT to 66267, or using the MyOncor app. The City of Southlake says its staff stays in contact with both Oncor and Tri-County during severe weather.

Not every address uses Oncor. Grapevine says some areas of northwest Grapevine get service from Tri-County. Keller’s resident guide lists both Oncor and Tri-County as local providers. Check your bill if you are not sure.

## What does the utility fix, and what is on my side of the meter?

The utility owns the poles, lines, and meter. You own the equipment on your house. Oncor says the homeowner is responsible for items like the [meter base](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/meter-base) and the [weatherhead](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/weatherhead). A fallen limb can break either one.

When that happens, Oncor cannot restore your power until a licensed electrician repairs the damaged equipment. In many cities the work also needs a city inspection first. The service drop, the line from the pole to your house, belongs to the utility. The weatherhead is the cap where that line meets your house wiring.

## Why is my neighbor’s power on but mine is off?

Your home may be on a different set of lines, or your own equipment may be damaged. Oncor lists both reasons on its Storm Center page. If neighbors have power and you do not, report it to the utility and mention that only your home is out.

Use this order:

1. Look outside. Note whether nearby homes and street lights are dark.
2. Check the utility outage map or report the outage.
3. Look at the outside of your house for a pulled meter, a loose service cap, or a limb on the line. Stay back and do not touch anything.
4. Smell for smoke or burning. If you smell it or see sparks, leave and call 911.
5. If the outside looks damaged, call a licensed electrician. Do not open the panel or meter yourself.

## What do I do about a downed power line?

Treat every downed line as live. Oncor says to assume a downed line is energized, leave the area, and call 911. Never move a line or an object touching it. Do not drive over it. Oncor also takes downed-line reports at 888-313-4747, but 911 comes first.

## When should I call an electrician after an outage?

Call when the utility has restored power but something on your property is wrong. A [power outage](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/glossary/power-outage) can leave damage behind even after the lights come back.

Common reasons to call:

- The meter base or weatherhead is bent, cracked, or pulled loose.
- A breaker in your electrical panel will not stay on.
- Lights flicker or dim after power returns.
- You smell burning near an outlet, switch, or panel.

Those signs are covered in our [electrical warning signs guide](https://danielelectric.multisites.ai/guides/electrical-warning-signs) and our emergency electrical help guide. ## Frequently asked questions

### How do I report a power outage in Southlake, Grapevine, or Keller?

If Oncor serves your address, call 888-313-4747, text OUT to 66267, or use the MyOncor app. Some addresses in these cities are served by Tri-County Electric Cooperative, so check your bill if you are not sure. Keller lists Tri-County at 817-444-3201.

### Why is my neighbor's power on but mine is off?

Your neighbor may be on a different set of lines. A storm may also have damaged equipment on your house, such as the meter base or weatherhead. Oncor says a private electrician must repair that equipment before power can be restored.

### What do I do if I see a downed power line?

Assume the line is energized. Leave the area right away and call 911. The 911 operator will contact Oncor. Do not touch the line or anything that touches it, and keep children and pets away.

### Does Daniel Electric fix problems on my side of the meter?
